Mikael Åkerfeldt's vocals, which have noticeably matured over the years, alternating between folky-clean parts and intense death growls, also contribute to the success of the album.
The included songs offer the absolute extremes of powerful guitar and drum-driven sounds, to dreamy keyboard and synthesizer sounds, with a wall of guitar riffs and fast drums creating a depressing and doomish atmosphere in the more brutal tracks.
