Paradise Lost was formed in 1988 in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and is known as the founder of the Gothic Death/Doom Metal genre; a style they fully established in the world with their second Album, the influential Gothic. After releasing two Albums, including Gothic, for the British label Peaceville Records and later contributing to establish Peaceville as the home of the best trio of British Doom bands (alongside My Dying Bride and Anathema), Paradise Lost signed with the also British label Music For Nations, which finally brought the band breakthrough to mainstream Rock and metal audiences, while their style continued to evolve, making them one of the most important British metal exports globally. Lost Paradise was the band's debut Album, released in 1990, and one of the early highlights in Peaceville's formative years. With more Death Metal influences, Paradise Lost created a dark and atmospheric style of brutal death metal, contrasting with one based on speed. The Album was recorded at the Academy Studios (My Dying Bride, Anathema, Cradle of Filth) in Yorkshire, England.
